Fairbanks in September: What Visitors Should Know

September is one of the most interesting times to visit Fairbanks, Alaska. Summer is ending, the nights are getting longer, and aurora season is beginning. Aurora activity alone does not guarantee a good view. Cloud cover, your location, and local weather conditions are just as important. Try to get away from bright city lights and check the sky conditions before making a long drive. Bring layers, a warm jacket, gloves, and comfortable shoes if you plan to spend time outside at night. Roads around town are generally easy to navigate, but conditions outside Fairbanks can be very different. Don’t plan your entire Fairbanks trip around one aurora night.
